Graduates wishing to become members of the PGA of SA are required to pass both playing and teaching ability tests, attain a 5 handicap or below and fulfil minimum hours work experience, half of which can be logged whilst studying. Students can retain their amateur status throughout the study period.

Programme Description
Students on the PGA Diploma programme receive intensive training for their golf performance and towards a career in the golf industry. Graduates choose between a playing career and a career within golf such as coaching or golf club management. The diploma is the internationally recognised qualification for the golf industry.
The PGA Diploma is a 3-year programme, registered with SAQA at NQF level 5. TGSE is accredited to present the programme by the PGA of South Africa and CATHSSETA (Accreditation no. 613/P/000216/2012).
Performance Development
Students improve their playing skills under guidance from the TGSE coaching team, using the Total Golf Coaching System. Technical, Fitness and Skills Training come in the form of both group and individual sessions. Weekly group mental sessions are conducted and individual sessions are available at additional cost.
An Order of Merit is formed from the weekly medals and regular 72-hole tournaments. All vital stats are recorded and used to form the student’s development process. A match play championship is also held throughout the year.

Practical Learning
The learning process includes a large practical element to compliment the theory. Students participate in coaching workshops and gain experience through coaching programmes such as the Special Olympics, organising charity golf events & Pro/Ams working at certain Sunshine Tour events.
A select number of 3rd year students each year gain fantastic coaching and life experience by spending 8 weeks coaching in USA.
Additional work placement programmes in the golf industry are arranged throughout the 3 years of study, giving the students a wide range of practical experience in areas such as retail and golf club management.
